George

Located on Cronulla’s prestigious Taloombi Street, George is an architectural triumph of cultural sensitivity and coastal grandeur. The site possesses an incredibly rare feature—an original Aboriginal midden cave. Rather than dominating this sacred geography, the footprint is meticulously choreographed to preserve, frame, and pay homage to the ancient rock formations, weaving profound historical reverence into the contemporary domestic experience.

The building’s envelope is defined by a highly crafted application of Krause bricks. Employing a deliberate ‘hit and miss’ perforation technique, the masonry acts as a dynamic, breathable skin. This intricate lattice approach tempers the harsh coastal sun and negotiates privacy, casting a shifting veil of dappled light across the internal corridors. The resulting aesthetic balances grounded earthiness with surprising visual porosity.

Ascending the structure reveals a shift from sheltered intimacy to boundless exposure. The residence culminates in an expansive rooftop terrace, complete with an elevated pool that gestures out toward the shimmering expanse of Gunnamatta Bay. George stands as an exceptionally resolved sanctuary, bridging ancient earthly origins with modern coastal luxury.
